The first
Jodi Mattes Access Award for accessible museum-related websites has been awarded to the
National Maritime Museum in Greenwich at the
RNIB
Talking Images conference on 20 May 2003.
This exemplary website demonstrates that making a website accessible to the disabled is certainly not incompatible with making it dynamic and interesting to others.
The
Tate were commended for their
i-Map project making their Matisse Picasso exhibition accessible to the blind.
The award is named after Jodi Mattes (1973-2001) who worked on disabled access projects for the
RNIB and the
British Museum,
including the
COMPASS project.
